A Civil Action is a legal drama based on Jonathan Harr's 1995 book about a true Woburn, Massachusetts court case involving trichloroethylene contamination of a local aquifer and illnesses among residents. Boston attorney Jan Schlichtmann takes up the families' class-action lawsuit against corporations tied to local tanneries, and the case consumes his firm financially and professionally.
